a cloud of swallows

Sparrowhawk | Mesmerising Moments

It was dusk, it was peaceful and I was weaving a small basket by the fire, at the edge of the old woods.

Suddenly, a cloud of swallows flew through the peace, urgently chattering. I felt the breath of their wings on my face as I looked up to see a sparrowhawk!

She threw her feet forward, wings out stretched, braking in midair right in front of me.

So close, our eyes locked.

So close, I could hear the smooth shush of her wings as she turned & headed for the woods.

The swallows, a frantic mob, darted this way and that way around her, their bellies flashing a fiery red warning, lit by the setting Sun.

They disappeared into the trees.

Finally, I took a deep breath.

It had all happened in a moment.

A wonder filled, heart stopping, timeless; Mesmerising Moment.
