Swallowtail and Monarch Butterflies | Mesmerising Moments

by Sam (12), USA

I really like the way butterflies flutter about and how they swirl up and down chasing each other.

The wide range of colours and size is awesome. I really like the Swallowtail because it is so big and colourful.

A new friend Don kept calling the Swallowtail butterfly a Monarch butterfly so I decided I should draw him a Swallowtail and write it’s name on the drawing so that he would remember which butterfly the black and yellow one was.

It made me feel great that Don liked my drawing and now calls the Swallowtail butterfly by the right name. I have drawn him a Monarch but I haven’t had a chance to give it to him yet.

I love to draw, I always have, it’s fun and creative. Life drawing is fun but I also like designing graphics and drawing cartoons. I want to be animator.

It takes a very special naturalists eye to notice and be able to document the difference between two butterflies.

Sam is our third kidsMM contributor – we love his hand drawn pictures and suspect that, with his eye for detail, he will one day make a great animator.

If you’d like to contribute your Mesmerising Moments, get in touch – we’d love to share them.

Playing in nature is food for the soul.
