Pyracantha coccinea - Firethorn | Mesmerising Moments

I hated you when I was young because you popped my ball. Not just one or two or three but eventually them all.

You kept me out when I wanted in and in when I wanted out, your berries are bright your leaves are green but your thorns are far too stout.

Now I see your benefits, a late spring froth of flowers providing food for hungry bees, I watch for hours and hours.

Berry pomes herald Christmas not too far away, your branches ideal cover for birds when cats are out to play.

You were the bane of childhood, for that I can forgive, for wildlife you’re the perfect place to work and eat and live.

This picture was taken during this Mesmerising Moment on a mobile phone camera.

You can find out more about the benefits of Firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea) for wildlife on the Wild About Gardens website. There’s a great photograph of the frothy spring flowers too.
