Strawberry | Mesmerising Moments

Late-morning sun creeps over the garden fence. I’m impatient to get outside. It’s strawberry season!

Nestling among the leaves it glints. A deep red pin cushion studded with golden seeds. The first.

Moist-looking, figure hugging skin stretched thin as though dressed in wild silk.

A crown of green leaves, washed clean by the summer rain, surround the stiff stalk. I pluck the strawberry from the plant.

Teeth sink into the soft, sweet flesh. Tongue revels in the warm, delicate texture as seeds crunch – pleasingly familiar. Venus seeds, each the possibility of more life now sustaining mine.
