Silver Birch Seed | Mesmerising Moments

Pendulous branches dapple sunlight on the soft, woody ground.

My mossy nook, the perfect cranny to sit and look with open heart as insects dart and critters rustle.

No hustle here in the arms of the Lady of the Woods. I close my eyes and imagine sipping sap in Spring; a firesteel spark, ember catching on feathery silvering bark.

Pioneer, you set sail for new shores before any other of the woods, your birch brush clearing out, cleansing, getting ready. Seeds fly far and wide, angel hearts on fairy wings.

There are many myths and legends surrounding the Silver Birch (a few you can read about on Trees for Life). After the ice age, birch trees would have been among the first colonists of new land. Find out more about Silver Birch (Betula pendula) on the Forestry Commission website.
